A Russian Youth

It is the First World War, and Private Aleksei (Vladimir Korolyov) is a village boy who goes to the front dreaming of medals and fame. Alexander Zolotukhin follows him through his first battle, which leaves him blind, and into a new post where he has to catch enemy planes by ear. Aleksei stands with his head against the huge metal funnels, listening to the empty air.
