Privacy Policy

Overview

Perfery ("we," "our") is a film recommendation tool. This policy describes what data we use when you visit perfery.com and how we handle it.

Data we use

• Letterboxd import: If you use Import Letterboxd and upload an export file, we use that data in your browser to filter out titles you've already seen. It is stored in your browser (localStorage) and is not kept on our servers long term.
• List URLs and seed titles: When you paste a Letterboxd list URL or search for films, that input is sent to our servers to generate recommendations. We do not retain these after the request is complete.
• Usage analytics: We use Google Analytics 4 and Vercel Analytics to understand how the site is used in aggregate — which features are used, how recommendations are received, and which films are clicked, swapped, or removed from results. Vibe and List queries appear in the URL of the page (for example /vibe?q=cozy+autumn+movies) and are therefore captured by analytics as part of the page address. We use this data only to study aggregate usage patterns and improve the recommendation engine. It is not linked to your real identity beyond a pseudonymous browser cookie, and we do not sell or share it with advertisers. Analytics data is exported to Google BigQuery for our own internal analysis. Names, email addresses, and any other directly identifying information are never collected.
• General usage: Our hosting provider may log standard technical data (e.g. IP address, request timestamps) for security and operation. We do not sell or share this with third parties for advertising.

Third-party services

We use TMDb for movie data and Wikidata for sub-genre and thematic enrichment (Wikidata content is licensed CC0). IMDb and Metacritic ratings are shown when available. Letterboxd data is read from public pages. Google Analytics 4 and Vercel Analytics provide aggregate usage measurement. Each service has its own privacy policy; we encourage you to review them.

Cookies and storage

We use browser localStorage to remember your Letterboxd-related preferences and imported diary data so you don't have to re-import every visit. Google Analytics sets a first-party cookie (_ga) used to distinguish unique visitors for aggregate measurement. We do not use third-party advertising cookies and we do not sell your data.

Changes

We may update this policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top will reflect the latest version. Continued use of Perfery after changes constitutes acceptance.
