In Madurai, rooster fighting is more than a pastime, and Pettaikaran (V. I. S. Jayapalan) has made his name there with a record of wins nobody in town can match. Karuppu (Dhanush), one of his aides, breaks his word during a fight, and the break turns two allies into enemies. Vetrimaaran builds the story around a single trade, where loyalty is the thing a man is ranked by and pride is what he stakes on a bird.
