Carlitos (Horácio Silva) is a schoolboy in Porto who wants one thing, the attention of Terezinha (Fernanda Matos), and his friend Eduardo (António Santos) wants it too. Manoel de Oliveira, in his first feature, cast mostly children from his hometown and adapted a short story by José Rodrigues de Freitas. The title comes from a counting rhyme the kids chant in their games, the kind of rhyme children use to choose who is out.
