Assunta Spina

Assunta Spina (Francesca Bertini) loves Michele Boccadifuoco (Gustavo Serena), and then other people step between them and the jealousy starts. Don Federigo Funelli (Carlo Benetti) and Raffaele (Luciano Albertini) are among those pulling at her, and what follows is a Neapolitan story of rivalry and wounded pride. Bertini and Serena directed it themselves in 1915, and Bertini plays her scenes plainly, without the broad gestures common in silent films then.
