Divided Heaven

Rita Seidel (Renate Blume) comes back to her childhood village in 1961 after a breakdown, and lies in recovery while the last two years replay in her head. Konrad Wolf follows her memory of Manfred (Eberhard Esche), the chemist ten years older whom she loved, and of his new chemical process, which officials turned away. A few weeks before the Wall goes up, Manfred leaves for West Berlin and hopes she will come after him.
