Filmlovers!

Paul (Louis Birman) is six years old and wants to know what movies are, why people gather in the dark to watch them. Around him, a painter, a philosopher, a reader of Barthes, and his grandmother each offer their own answer. Desplechin builds the film from fragments of conversation and memory, but the deeper he searches for what binds filmlovers together, the more the past presses in, and what started as celebration edges toward loss.
