I Was Nineteen
Germany, spring 1945, and the war is in its last weeks. Gregor Hecker (Jaecki Schwarz) crosses back into the country he left as a boy, now in the uniform of a Soviet soldier, and finds himself a stranger in his own homeland. He is a victor and one of the defeated at once, and each German he meets sharpens the question. Konrad Wolf, who lived this journey himself, shapes it as a diary of encounters.
