Javier wants to rebuild his family's abandoned ranch as a way back from grief, hoping the work might save his marriage to Mariana (Lucía Uribe), who survived a suicide attempt after their son died. His grandmother (Arturo Ripstein) blocks every step, refusing to let the house be restored or the land disturbed. Cárdenas and Granillo build dread in the quiet spaces between them, letting the forest itself become an obstacle that answers to no one's will.
