King Lear

King Lear (Jüri Järvet), old and tired, splits his kingdom among his three daughters and asks each to say how much she loves him. Goneril (Elza Radziņa) and Regan (Galina Volchek) answer with praise, while Cordelia (Valentina Shendrikova) will not flatter him, and he banishes her. Grigori Kozintsev follows Lear from that moment, a king who has given away his power and is left with a Fool (Oleg Dal) for company.
