La Commune (Paris, 1871)
Paris, March 1871, and the city has been left to its own devices after the defeat of Napoleon III in the Franco-Prussian War. Peter Watkins sets two television stations side by side: a reporter for Versailles Television gives the calm official account, while the Commune's own station lets the Popincourt neighborhood speak for itself. More than 200 actors, among them a Laundress (Eliane Annie Adalto) and a Baker (Bernard Bombeau), crowd one stage-like set.
