Mexico 86

“Not all goals are scored on the field.”

Martín de la Torre (Diego Luna), a cunning Mexican bureaucrat, learns that his country has a chance to host the 1986 World Cup. He sets out to con FIFA, outmaneuver rivals like Emilio Azcárraga (Daniel Giménez Cacho), and beat the United States to the prize through nothing but guts and audacity. Gabriel Ripstein captures the scramble with the energy of a nation seizing its moment, the camera moving as fast as the schemes.
