In Germany in 1991, Monika (Monika M.) lives in her apartment with Rob, a corpse she keeps and loves. Then she meets Mark (Mark Reeder), a living man who offers her an ordinary life, and Jörg Buttgereit sets the two against each other in her small rooms. The film puts its weight on a plain question of attachment: who gets to be loved, and what a person will give up to keep it.
