Our Lady of the Nile

Virginia (Amanda Mugabezaki) and Veronica (Clariella Bizimana) board at Notre-Dame du Nil, a Catholic school on a hill in Rwanda where girls are trained to become the country's future elite. Atiq Rahimi, adapting Scholastique Mukasonga's novel, fills the dormitory with the shared dreams and small quarrels of 1973. Outside the walls, and soon inside them, the hatred between Hutu and Tutsi is already deciding who these girls are allowed to be.
