The Overcoat
St. Petersburg is a city of government offices, and in one of them sits Akakiy Bashmachkin (Andrei Kostrichkin), a poor clerk his coworkers mock without letting up. Kozintsev and Trauberg, adapting two Gogol stories, follow him as he gives up his small savings for a new winter coat. The film is about how little a person has to own before one thing starts to matter that much.
