Cathy (Margot Robbie) wants Heathcliff (Jacob Elordi), a volatile outsider raised on the moors, but her family pulls her toward Edgar (Shazad Latif), a man of money and standing. The two are caught in a spiral of longing and cruelty that neither can break, watched by Nelly (Hong Chau), who knows how it began. Fennell shoots the Yorkshire landscape in soft focus and close-ups of faces, so that the vast world narrows to the space between two people who cannot touch.
