SLOW & QUIET
solitude and drift
Films centered on characters who are psychologically, socially, or physically unmoored from stable life — wandering without destination, existing outside community and purpose, where the condition of aloneness or drift is the primary subject texture sustained across the film. Distinguished from wistful-longing (where solitude is a byproduct of unfulfilled romantic desire and the character retains social footing) by requiring that the unmooring be from life-structure broadly, not specifically from a romantic partner; distinguished from urban-alienation (a social-environmental register about city anonymity) by centering the individual's interior condition of drift rather than the city as alienating force.
