returning home

Films whose dramatic engine is a character physically returning to a place of origin — hometown, family home, ancestral community — and reckoning with what has changed, what hasn't, and who they've become in the interval. The return itself must be the structural spine, not incidental backdrop. Distinct from family-dynamics (which centers the family system without requiring departure-and-return) by requiring the homecoming as the activating event; distinct from memory-and-grief (which can be entirely interior, no physical return required) by being grounded in the protagonist's literal re-entry into a specific place.
